GM MDI2 is a diagnostic tool developed by General Motors(GM) to communicate with a vehicle's ECU. It can read fault codes, perform real-time data monitoring and conduct other diagnostic tests to help technicians maintain and repair vehicles. MDI2 is an upgraded version of MDI. Its functions include support for a variety of general vehicle models, and is compatible with a variety of diagnostic software to provide faster and more reliable diagnostic services. It is usually used together with GDS2, Tech2Win diagnostic software.

The GM MDI2 diagnostic tool supports diagnostic applications: GDS 2, Data Bus Diagnostic Tool, and Tech2Win. It also supports Pass-Thru programming applications: TIS2Web–SPS.  It replaces the first generation MDI, introduced in 2007, for Pass-Thru programming on current GM models.

The car diagnostic tool GM MDI2 is backward compatible, so it can be used to perform Pass-Thru programming on all vehicles built since 1996 by means of the J1962 connector using a DLC cable.  Connection between the MDI2 and the PC can be accomplished via standalone (USB) and the dealership network (CAT5).

Operating system requirements: Win XP, Win 7, Win 8. NOT compatible Windows 10.

    Note:

You need to turn off your anti-virus software before installation, otherwise you will not be able to install the software.

How to use MDI2 WIfI GM diagnostic tool?

Simply connect the host PC computer application to the vehicle and use the MDI 2 scanner for data transfer and Electronic Control Unit ECU reprogramming; quick and effortless for everyday use.

9 Reasons to Buy Our MDI 2 GM Opel scan tool?

    1. Read and Clear Fault Codes

This feature allows users to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) stored in the vehicle’s Electronic Control Units (ECUs). Users can quickly identify vehicle issues and troubleshoot problems. Additionally, users can clear the fault codes to restore the system to its normal state, ensuring issues have been resolved before doing so.

    2. Complete List of Live Data Streaming for All Main ECUs

Users can access real-time data from all major ECUs in the vehicle, such as the engine, transmission, and safety systems. This data includes live readings from sensors and states of actuators, helping technicians monitor vehicle performance in real time and make necessary adjustments.

    3. Recordable / Playback of Live Data

GM MDI2 diagnostic tool allows users to record live data streams for later analysis. Technicians can replay this data to gain insights into vehicle performance under specific conditions, helping identify potential issues.

    4. New Software Flash for Existing ECUs to Fix Drivability Issues

This feature enables technicians to update or re-flash existing ECU software to address drivability issues, such as engine stuttering or performance drops. These updates can fix software bugs or compatibility issues.

    5. Programming and Installation of New ECUs

This function supports the programming and installation of new ECUs, such as Powertrain Control Module (PCM), ABS controllers, instrument clusters, airbags, and fuel pumps. Technicians can configure the new ECU to communicate properly with the rest of the systems in the vehicle.

    6. Programming New Keys

Technicians can program new keys for vehicles to ensure safety and convenience. This process typically involves pairing the new key’s identification information with the vehicle's ECU, allowing the vehicle to recognize the new key.

    7. Setting / Removing Speed Limiters

This feature allows technicians to set or remove speed limiters on vehicles. This is useful in specific situations, such as meeting certain user or operational requirements, enabling users to adjust speed limits as needed.

    8. J2534 Pass Thru Offering ECU Re-flash and Diagnostics for Other Vehicle Manufacturers

Through the J2534 interface, users can access and program ECUs from other vehicle manufacturers, provided they have subscribed to the relevant proprietary software. This offers convenience for multi-brand service, enabling technicians to work on multiple models using one device.

    9. More Dealer-Specific Functions

This feature refers to additional functions specific to certain brands or dealerships, which may include model-specific services, maintenance resets, and system calibrations. These functions typically require specific tools or software to use and better meet the needs of dealerships and vehicle manufacturers.

Each of these features aims to enhance vehicle diagnostics and repair efficiency, assisting technicians in providing better service to their customers.
